The National Academy of Social Insurance is a non-profit, non-partisan organization whose elected members represent the nation's leading experts on social insurance. Social insurance encompasses broad-based systems that help workers and their families pool risks to avoid loss of income due to retirement, death, disability, or unemployment, and to ensure access to health care. The Academy was founded in 1986. It is governed by an 18 member Board of Directors that is elected by the Academy’s some 1000 members. The Academy’s members are themselves elected by the membership.

The Academy’s mission is to advance solutions to challenges facing the nation by increasing public understanding of how social insurance contributes to economic security. The Academy engages its members in efforts to inform social insurance policy issues and to educate governmental, business, academic, and other leaders on social insurance and critical role both a strong economy and democracy in America. The Academy’s work is widely recognized as a well-informed . We seek to be an impartial, balanced and authoritative source of important information on social insurance.
