The Global Fund for Children

Company Overview

The Global Fund for Children (GFC) envisions a world where all children grow up to be productive and caring citizens of our global society. GFC advances the education and dignity of young people around the world through its grantmaking programs, book projects, and community outreach.

We have invested over $25 million in more than 500 grantee partners in 78 countries, touching the lives of more than eight million children worldwide. At the heart of our unique grantmaking model is a commitment to the long-term growth and viability of each of our community-based grantee partners.

When we gave our first grants, amounting to $3,100, in 1997, our grassroots grantmaking model was born – small amounts of money, given to small organizations, make a big impact on children's lives. These first grants were distributed to three community-based organizations serving vulnerable children and youth in India, Thailand, and the United States.

Since then, through strategic and responsible growth, our grantmaking program has expanded and thrived beyond our expectations. Within two years of our first grants, our grantmaking budget increased tenfold. By our tenth anniversary, in 2004-2005, we were supporting grassroots organizations in 48 countries and had launched strategic strengthening services to help our grantee partners maximize their potential. In 2008, we reached the milestone of having disbursed over $10 million in grants.

Today, as we celebrate more than 15 years of advancing the dignity of vulnerable children and youth, we distribute more than $4 million each year in fulfillment of our mission.
