About The San Diego Foundation

The San Diego Foundation is proud to stand as San Diego's leading resource for information about charitable giving and community needs. We encourage, support and facilitate meaningful dialogue on issues affecting each of our communities, and work with philanthropists to develop creative solutions to meet critical community needs.

Since our inception in 1975, The San Diego Foundation has granted out more than $814 million to critical nonprofit organizations throughout the region. Our donors and funds all share a common purpose: to make San Diego a better place to live, work and play.

Through The San Diego Foundation Malin Burnham Center for Civic Engagement, The Foundation provides new, innovative, and engaging frameworks for community problem-solving, civic education, and policy analysis to address the needs of the community and build consensus for region-wide solutions that protect and enhance our quality of life.

The Foundation grants out more than $40 million each year to outstanding nonprofits throughout San Diego, in areas such as the environment, arts and culture, science and technology, civil society, health and human services, and disaster relief.

More than 1,800 individuals, families and corporations house their philanthropic funds at The Foundation. These include endowment, non-endowment, legacy and scholarship funds, with current assets of $616 million.

Among the thousands of funds housed at The Foundation, we are proud to include funds established by Sol and Helen Price, The Reuben H. Fleet family, and Audrey Geisel.

Since 1997, The San Diego Foundation Community Scholarship Program has allocated approximately $18 million in scholarships. Last year alone the program provided $2.5 million in scholarships to more than 650 students.

A number of extraordinary affiliates operate through The Foundation, including the San Diego Women’s Foundation, the San Diego Charitable Real Estate Foundation and the Balboa Park Trust.
